Here is where I strongly suggest you go on foot to those expensive places in the city centre that have a reputation for high prices but also nice styles. The high prices are there because of their location but also a little factor called quality. Most high end shops will stock diamonds that are top notch.
You will get great ideas starting here and high expectations, you might get blown away by the price tags but you'll get to feel and see the quality in the peices which is important and make sure to ask plenty of questions. Once you've familiarised yourself with the different styles you can make better choices.
If you've got the cash to splash out in one of these high class jewellers then good for you but if you'd prefer to get something cheaper then I suggest you go and find a goldsmith who doesn't have the high rental charges and staff to maintain and ask for an estimate to make a ring in the certain style you are after. You may have to look and ask around a lot of jewellers but this is probably the best way to save up to 20% - 30% on rings that you see in the high street shop window, if not more!
So you go about choosing your style in the high street then go hunt out a goldsmith in the low street and presto, you save a few hundred Euro, Pound, Dollar or whatever your particular currency is.
