Setting out to buy a diamond Ring
Counting the cost of an engagement Ring
How much are you willing to part with or more practically, how much can you afford? I've seen all sorts of price tags on rings but its whatever suites your pocket is where the line has to be drawn.
Sure you can take out a loan and spend months paying it back but looking to the future, if you're going to be planning a wedding and your still paying off that loan then its going to be difficult even coming up with the funds for the deposit on the venue. So best advise is be sensible.
Traditionally when setting out to buy a diamond ring it was whatever the man made per month which was what he would spend, so that's a good indicator of where to start also.

Lets say you earn between $1,500 and $3,000 per month. That's a tidy sum and it will get you a wonderful little gem but obviously, the more you fork out, the better you are going to get.
You can get diamond rings at low end prices like $300 also so don't fret if you cannot afford much more than that. Next up is buying a diamond engagement ring and how to get around her find out out.

Below is a rough guide as to what you might pay on the high street for diamond engagemnet ring.
The guide is only the price for the stones, you'll need to add extra dependin on the mount.
An 18ct yellow or white mount would set cost between $300 - $600
A platinum would cost anywhere between $700 and $1,200

As you can see, the price jumps as the stone gets bigger and also as the quality gets better. These are not exact prices but more an indicator of what you are likely to pay. The diamond exchange fluctuates and so will prices, in store price most probably not indicate what the markets are reading as stone are bought at different times and so prices do not reflect in realtime.
